About this policy
This Cookie Statement explains how FairTaxi uses cookies and similar technologies on its marketing website (www.fairtaxi.ie) and within the admin dashboard. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They can be “session” cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or “persistent” (they remain for a set period). Similar technologies include pixels, which are small pieces of code that report a visit to a third party, and browser storage, which a website uses to remember a setting on your device.
Your choices on this site
When you first visit our marketing website we show a consent bar at the bottom of the page. It has two buttons of equal standing: “Accept all” and “Reject all”. Nothing is pre-selected. Until you choose, and if you choose “Reject all”, we set no marketing cookies and the Meta Pixel described below does not load.
Your choice is stored on your device in browser storage under the key ft_consent. It is not a cookie and it is never sent to anyone. We keep it for six months, after which we ask you again. You can change your choice at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of our marketing pages.
Strictly necessary storage
The consent record above is the only thing our marketing website stores on your device before you make a choice. It is needed to honour your decision and requires no consent under the European Communities (Electronic Communications Networks and Services) (Privacy and Electronic Communications) Regulations 2011 (S.I. No. 336 of 2011), because its only purpose is to carry out your request.
Cookieless analytics
The FairTaxi marketing website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand visitor trends. Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use any cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track individual users across sites. It uses anonymised, aggregated data derived from server-side requests. No consent is required for it, because it sets no cookies and stores no information on your device.
Meta Pixel (with your consent)
If you choose “Accept all”, our marketing website loads the Meta Pixel, a piece of code provided by Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, Merrion Road, Dublin 4, D04 X2K5, Ireland (“Meta”).
What it does. The pixel reports to Meta that your browser opened one of our pages, and it reports certain actions on the site: sending a message through our contact form, contacting our beta programme, signing up to hear when the rider app launches, viewing our rider, driver or business pages, and tapping a link to an app store. It sends Meta the page address, the time, your IP address, information about your browser, and the cookie identifiers below. It does not send your name, email address or phone number. We have turned off Meta’s Automatic Advanced Matching, so the pixel does not read the fields of our forms.
Why we use it. Ad measurement: to see whether people who saw a FairTaxi advertisement on Meta’s services later visited our site or took one of the actions above. Audience building: to let us show advertisements on Meta’s services to people who have visited our site, and to people Meta considers similar to them.
Cookies it sets. The pixel sets the following cookies on the fairtaxi.ie domain.
_fbp: identifies your browser to Meta so that visits can be counted and attributed. Persistent, expires 90 days after it was last refreshed._fbc: set only when you arrive from a Meta advertisement with a click identifier in the link, so that the visit can be attributed to that advertisement. Persistent, expires 90 days after it was last refreshed.
Meta may also read cookies it has already set on your browser under its own domains when the pixel loads. Those are governed by Meta’s cookie policy, linked below.
Legal basis. Storing and reading these cookies requires your consent under S.I. No. 336 of 2011. The processing of the personal data they collect is based on your consent under Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR. You are free to refuse, and refusing has no effect on your use of the site.
Who is responsible. For the collection of pixel data on our site and its transmission to Meta, FairTaxi and Meta act as joint controllers. What Meta does with the data after that is Meta’s own responsibility under its policies. Section 12 of our Privacy Policy describes this arrangement and the transfer of the data to the United States.
How to withdraw. Use the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of our marketing pages and choose “Reject all”. We then stop the pixel and instruct your browser to delete the _fbp and _fbc cookies for our domain. Some browsers do not allow a website to delete a cookie in that way. If yours does not, you can delete the cookies from your browser settings. You can also refuse cookies for the fairtaxi.ie domain in your browser, and you can manage how Meta uses information from websites at your Meta account settings.
More from Meta. Meta’s cookie policy is at www.facebook.com/privacy/policies/cookies. Meta’s privacy policy is at www.facebook.com/privacy/policy.
Admin dashboard cookies
The FairTaxi admin dashboard (used by FairTaxi staff) uses a single HttpOnly session cookie to maintain an authenticated session. This cookie is strictly necessary for the secure operation of the dashboard and does not store personal data beyond a session identifier. It is deleted when you log out or close the browser.
The admin dashboard also uses an Authorization header containing a token for API requests. This is not a cookie and is used solely for authentication.
Managing cookies
Most browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies. On our marketing website the “Cookie settings” link in the footer is the quickest way to change your choice. Refusing marketing cookies does not affect your use of the site. For the admin dashboard, disabling strictly necessary session cookies would prevent login.
Changes
We may update this statement. Material changes will be posted on our website, and where we start using a new cookie that needs your consent we will ask you again.
